Puberty Education and Awareness for Boys
On 27th August 2025, a puberty education session was held separately for boys of Classes VII and VIII to help them understand the physical, emotional, and social changes of adolescence. The Counselor explained that these changes vary for each individual and reassured students that this is normal. Key topics included the role of hormones like testosterone, physical growth, emotional responses, personal hygiene, and mental well-being. The session also addressed common feelings such as curiosity or embarrassment and encouraged open, confident discussions. Recommended reading was provided for further learning.


Debating the Past: Senior Inter-House English Debate Ignites Passion and Perspective
The Senior School Inter-House English Debate was held on 25th August 2025 in the SS Large Hall. The motion for the debate, "Historical Figures should be celebrated without question," sparked thought-provoking arguments and powerful oratory from all participants.
The event was judged by Ms Sangita Jairam, Mr Karthikeyan, and Mr Swetank, who brought their expertise and insight to the proceedings. Each speaker was given 4 minutes for their speech followed by a 90-second rebuttal session, where members of rebuttal team posed precise, challenging questions.
After a riveting exchange of perspectives and ideas, the results were as follows:

One-Day National Programme on Climate Change Held at The Lawrence School, Lovedale
An Initiative under the NEP Alliance of Excellence
On 23rd August 2025, The Lawrence School, Lovedale successfully hosted a One-Day Programme on Climate Change, as part of the NEP Alliance of Excellence – Transforming Schools Through Strategic Partnerships.
The initiative was conducted in association with Talentspire, a 500 plus member collective of senior academicians, scientists, research scholars, and technologists, under the chief patronage of Dr. G. Madhavan Nair (Former Chairman, ISRO) and the expert guidance of Dr. K. Kasturirangan (Former Chairman, ISRO; Chairman, NEP 2020 Committee). The event was organized in collaboration with the Divecha Centre for Climate Change (DCCC) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

In the afternoon, a strategic conference was held with school principals, Talentspire officials, and keynote speakers to discuss the possibility of establishing The Lawrence School, Lovedale as a National Hub School for climate education and sustainability initiatives. Additionally, a docu-series in collaboration with Doordarshan is being planned to amplify the message of climate awareness across the country.




Building Leaders of Tomorrow: A Transformative Workshop for Prefects
On 24th August 2025, Deen Sagar Ashraf, an Old Lawrencian, conducted a Leadership Workshop for Prefects, recommended by the Student Safeguarding Advisory Committee (SSAC). The interactive session blended reflection, group tasks, and role-plays, allowing students to explore personal growth and leadership challenges. Prefects gained hands-on experience in conflict resolution and learned to balance empathy with assertiveness. Practical tools in communication, decision-making, and peer motivation were shared. The workshop redefined leadership as a service rooted in integrity and vision.
Erudition Explorers: Senior School Humanities Quiz 2025
The Inter-House Humanities Quiz “Erudition Explorers” was held on 20th August 2025, featuring spirited participation from all Senior School Houses. Covering subjects like Psychology, Business Studies, History, and more, the event encouraged teamwork, quick thinking, and academic excellence.

Child Safety Awareness Programme: Key Learnings and Insights
On 23rd August 2025, a Child Safety Awareness Session was conducted at St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Coonoor, attended by faculty members from The Lawrence School, Lovedale—Mrs. Malini Kumar, Mr. Manikandan G, Mr. R. Saravanan, Mr. K. Yona Kumar, Mr. Jiwan Rasaily, Mrs. Anju Gijo, and Ms. Merlyn M Fernandes. The key speakers included Ms. Megala Maythily (Additional Sub Judge), Ms. Nagadevi (Lawyer), and Mr. Ravi CMS (Psychologist).
The speakers elaborated on the legal frameworks of POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act). They explained the complaint procedures, penalties for offenses, and mandatory measures such as psychological counseling for victims. The importance of confidentiality in reporting, timely filing of cases, and institutional accountability was underlined. It was made clear that schools and staff are responsible for student safety during all activities, including excursions and competitions, and any misconduct would have legal consequences.
The session also covered risk management in schools and homes, stressing that student safety takes precedence over academics. Teachers were urged to identify, assess, and reduce risks, remain observant, monitor visitors, and foster teamwork in ensuring safety. Different types of threats—physical, emotional, and moral—were discussed, along with their potential impact on children’s well-being. Educators were reminded to uphold their moral and social responsibilities, treat children with dignity, and maintain a child-friendly environment. The session concluded with the key message that child safety is non-negotiable and must remain a collective, continuous priority.


Victorious Strides: Lovedale Athletes Shine at District Level
Ooty, 20th August 2025 – The Lawrence School Lovedale Boys delivered an outstanding performance at the Nilgiri’s District Athletics Championship 2025, held at HADP Stadium, Ooty. With participation from over 15 schools across the district, the competition witnessed high levels of athletic excellence.
The Lawrence School athletes showcased exceptional talent and determination, securing multiple medals across various events:

Kavya Patel emerged as a dual medalist in the Under-20 Boys category, clinching a Silver in Discus Throw and a Bronze in Shotput.

Shresth Parak added to the medal tally with a Silver in Discus Throw in the Under-18 Boys category.

In track and field, Shaurya leapt to a Silver Medal in High Jump in the Under-20 Boys category.

Shlok Sharma made his mark by earning a Bronze Medal in Shotput under the Under-14 Boys category.

Additionally, the Girls’ Under-18 Relay Team brought home a Bronze Medal, adding to the school's overall success.

Junior School Happy Place
The much-awaited Junior School playroom, aptly named 'Happy Place,' officially opened its doors to the JS boys on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, at 2:15 PM. The Headmaster and the Deputy Headmaster lit the ceremonial lamp, while a Class 6 pupil joined the Headmaster in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark this joyous event!
The JS Happy Place has been a long-awaited dream come true, providing the boys with a space to unwind and immerse themselves in exciting indoor games. Featuring an impressive lineup of five Table Tennis tables, seven Carrom boards, four Foosball tables, and three Air-Hockey tables, this playroom adds a thrilling new dimension to life for the boys at JS.
A special Play Room Timetable will be introduced to ensure every boy has the opportunity to relax and enjoy indoor games in Junior School.


Anti-Drugs Awareness Week - 11th -15th August 2025
The Lawrence School successfully observed Anti-Drug Awareness Week from 11th to 15th August 2025. The initiative began with a mass pledge taken by students and staff emphasizing commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. Life Skills classes for middle school students provided awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, supplemented by drawing activities.
The Scouts and Guides, along with junior school students, performed a skit to spread the message in an engaging way, followed by additional sessions including a talk on addictions.
The latter half of the week saw creative and community-oriented events. Class 10 students performed a skit on real-life consequences of substance abuse, while Class 8 students designed impactful posters.
On Independence Day, 15th August, an Anti-Drug Rally was conducted with NCC, Scouts, and Guides, spreading awareness in the local community. Students displayed posters at public spots, distributed awareness handouts, and interacted with police officers.
Inter-House Tamil Storytelling & Speech Competition 2025
On 18th August 2025, the II Language Department organized the Inter-House Tamil Storytelling and Speech Competition for the Senior School. The event was held at 2:15 p.m. in the MUN Room, offering a vibrant platform for students to showcase their linguistic flair, confidence, oratory skills, and creative expression.
A total of 20 students from Classes IX and X participated, delivering captivating stories and impactful speeches that left a lasting impression. Their performances highlighted not only their command of the Tamil language but also their ability to engage and inspire an audience.
The event was adjudicated by Mr. Murugan, along with student judges Shrivarsan and C. T. S. Chidambaram, whose thoughtful feedback enriched the learning experience for all participants.
The competition was not just a display of talent—it was a celebration of cultural expression, effective communication, and the timeless art of storytelling.
Words That Inspire: Inter-House Speech/Storytelling Competition 2025
The Inter-House Speech/Storytelling Competition for the Senior School was held on 18th August 2025 in the Class 10C classroom. Designed to nurture confidence, clarity, and creativity, the event saw enthusiastic participation from students of Classes 9 and 10.
Judged by Mr. Harsh Pandey and Mr. Rajkumar Singh, the competition impressed with its display of powerful expression and storytelling finesse. Participants represented their Houses with pride, contributing to a vibrant and intellectually engaging afternoon.
Aravalli House emerged as the overall winner with 185 points, followed by Vindhya, Nilgiri, and Sumeru Houses. Individual accolades were awarded to top speakers like Ananya Singh (9A) and Mahi Airen (10A) for their exceptional performances.
The event concluded with motivating feedback from the judges, who praised the students for their articulate and original presentations.




Independence Day Celebrations 2025
The 79th Independence Day of our nation was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at The Lawrence School, Lovedale. As is tradition, the occasion commenced with an impressive Guard of Honour presented to the Chief Guest, Major General R.K. Suresh, recipient of the Shaurya Chakra and the Bharatiya Sena Medal.
The celebrations featured inspiring speeches by students - Adrika Arun addressed the gathering in English, while Sreeda Devangan delivered the Hindi oration. The school choir captivated the audience with a soulful medley of patriotic songs, setting a spirited tone for the day.
The Headmaster addressed the gathering, followed by a motivating speech from the Chief Guest, who commended the students and shared words of encouragement and wisdom. The vibrant celebrations continued through the day, with a spirited rally led by the NCC cadets and Scouts & Guides, commemorating the spirit of freedom and unity.




Junior School Inter-House English Debate 2025
The Junior School Inter-House English Debate was conducted on 15th August 2025. The thought-provoking motion for the debate was “It is wrong to use AI to do your assignments.” Young orators from all four houses spoke passionately, presenting strong arguments both for and against the motion.

Puberty Education and Awareness
On Sunday, 10 August 2025, a session on Puberty was conducted by the Student Counselor, Ms. Merlyn, along with the newly appointed Peer Educators, Kavya Singh and Aarna Dhanraj, class 9.
A total of 79 students from Class 7 and Class 8 attended the program. The interactive session aimed to create awareness and provide accurate information about the physical, emotional, and social changes experienced during puberty. The key topics covered included:

Menstrual cycle – understanding the process and its significance.

Hygiene practices – maintaining personal cleanliness during puberty.

Using correct terminology – promoting respect and clarity when talking about the human body.

Psychological changes – coping with mood swings and body-image issues.
-
Dealing with peer pressure – making informed choices.
To make the session interactive, the Peer Educators conducted an engaging activity titled "Myths and Facts". The session was well-received by the participants.




Strengthening Bonds: Lawrencians Honour Soldiers on Raksha Bandhan at Madras Regimental Centre
On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the students of the Art & Crafts Department at The Lawrence School, Lovedale, undertook a heartfelt initiative under the guidance of their teacher, Ms. Swayamprabha Parida. A total of 275 handmade rakhis were lovingly crafted by the students as a gesture of gratitude and respect for the brave soldiers of our nation.
These rakhis were gifted to the jawans at the Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington, during a special visit organized on 7th August 2025. Four students — Gulika Sinha, Adiya Sahu, Siya Hanrataka, and Anika C.B. — accompanied by Ms. Parida, visited the centre at 10:00 a.m. and returned to school by 1:30 p.m.
The visit proved to be an emotionally enriching experience. The students had the honour of personally tying the rakhis to the soldiers and celebrating Raksha Bandhan with them. The joy and pride evident on the faces of both the students and the soldiers truly reflected the spirit of unity, love, and patriotism.
This meaningful initiative not only strengthened the bond between civilians and the armed forces but also instilled values of gratitude, empathy, and national pride in the young minds of our school.




A Delegation from The Lawrence School, Lovedale Participates in the Model UN
at Welham Boys’ School
A delegation of eleven students participated in WELMUN 2025 “Orbis Vox,” hosted by Welham Boys’ School from July 30 to August 1, 2025, in Dehradun. The event brought together over 350 delegates from 25 schools across the country.
Our students took part in various committees including DISEC, UNHRC, Lok Sabha, and the Roman Senate, debating contemporary and historical topics such as small arms proliferation, the European refugee crisis, India’s “One Nation, One Election” proposal, and the assassination of Julius Caesar.
Through extensive research on country positions, drafting resolutions, and engaging in formal debate, our delegates honed their critical thinking and academic writing skills. Their participation in speeches, caucuses, and negotiations strengthened their public speaking and diplomacy, fostering greater confidence and clarity. Working collaboratively in teams nurtured leadership, cooperation, and cross-cultural empathy, enabling students to articulate perspectives beyond their own experiences.
This enriching experience helped build resilience and a well-informed global mindset—hallmarks of future-ready leaders and citizens.
