Abuse Prevention Week at The Lawrence School (January 27–31, 2025)

The Lawrence School observed Abuse Prevention Week from January 27 to 31, 2025, in alignment with the guidelines set by the Directorate of Education, Tamil Nadu. The week focused on raising awareness about abuse in all its forms and equipping both students and staff with the knowledge to identify and prevent it.

Throughout the week, activities included special assemblies discussing the recognition of various types of abuse, student-created posters promoting abuse prevention, and resource-sharing sessions for educators to better understand how to support students and encourage healthy relationships. Life skills classes empowered students to reflect on abuse, set boundaries, and protect themselves and others. Classroom discussions and dorm meetings provided a platform for students to share thoughts on standing up against abuse. To conclude the week, both students and staff took a pledge to maintain a safe and respectful school environment. These initiatives were aimed at fostering a culture of safety and respect within the school community.

Farewell Assembly for the Batch of 2025 – 27th January 2025

On 27th January 2025, the Large Hall was filled with emotion as the Batch of 2025 bid farewell to their school. The evening commenced with the school prayer, setting a reflective tone for the gathering.

The first highlight of the event was Head Girl Nirupama’s speech, where she shared personal experiences and memories from her journey at the school. Her heartfelt words captured the essence of the batch's challenges and triumphs over the years. Following Nirupama, the Head Boy delivered his speech, reflecting on the friendships and lessons that had shaped their time together. A special Farewell Video was then shown, featuring joyful moments and unforgettable experiences from their school years.

A significant moment in the assembly came when teachers presented mementos to each student, along with specially written snippets that highlighted their unique contributions. This personal touch made each student feel honored and recognized. The Joseph Mathew Best Footballer Award was presented to Rehan Abbas for his outstanding performance on the football field.

In his speech, the Headmaster encouraged the batch to approach the future with confidence and determination. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem, followed by a delicious dinner and lively music, bringing the evening to a joyful close.The Farewell Assembly was a celebration of the Batch of 2025’s time at the school, filled with cherished memories, accomplishments, and the excitement of new beginnings.

Republic Day Celebrations at The Lawrence School, Lovedale: A Tribute to India’s

Heritage and Progress

The Lawrence School, Lovedale, celebrated the 76th Republic Day with a grand and patriotic ceremony, uniting students, faculty, and the distinguished Chief Guest, Rear Admiral PG Philipose. The event commenced with a dignified Guard of Honour, followed by the unfurling of the national flag and the resonant notes of the National Anthem. Students delivered inspiring speeches on the theme Swarnim Bharat - Virasat aur Vikas in both English and Hindi, highlighting India's progress and cultural heritage. The school choir further enriched the atmosphere with a stirring patriotic song, fostering a deep sense of national pride among all present.

The Headmaster emphasized the importance of academic excellence and civic responsibility, urging students to uphold the values of the Constitution. The Chief Guest, drawing from his military experience, highlighted the role of youth in shaping India's future through discipline, sacrifice, and patriotism. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, reinforcing the essence of Republic Day—honoring past sacrifices, embracing unity in diversity, and striving towards a just and equitable nation.

Exploring Nature and Conservation: A Report on the Nature Club Trek

On the 24th of January 2025, the Nature Club students, accompanied by their teacher-in-charge, Mrs. Sashikala Radhakrishnan, embarked on an insightful and adventurous trek to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and the water tank behind Prep School Kitchen. This trek provided the students with an enriching experience that combined learning with the joy of exploring nature.

During the trek, the students engaged in meaningful discussions on various environmental topics, including climate change, the significance of preserving nature, and the role of students in spreading awareness within their communities. As they made their way through the forest, they had the unique opportunity to taste wild berries of orange and purple varieties, known locally as Thavittupalayam and Vicky Palam.

The group had an engaging and insightful discussion under the trees about various plant species. They explored the differences between exotic and endemic plants, with a special emphasis on shola trees.

The trek left the students eager for their next adventure. They have exciting plans for the upcoming weeks, including a visit to the Arboretum in Ooty or a toy train ride to Coonoor. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to interact with the NGO Keep Coonoor Clean and learn about their initiatives. Through this interaction, they hope to understand the NGO’s ongoing projects and explore ways to implement similar environmental conservation measures in their school community.

Induction of Batch of 2025 into the Old Lawrencian Association

The induction ceremony for the outgoing students of the Batch of 2025 into the Old Lawrencian Association (OLA) was held on January 25, 2025, at the Ooty Club. During this event, the office bearers of the OLA provided a comprehensive briefing to the students about the procedures for membership, as well as the numerous benefits that come with being a part of such a prestigious organization. They highlighted the lifelong opportunities and networking advantages available to members of the OLA.

The session began with addresses from several prominent figures. The President of the OLA, Rear Admiral Philipose, shared his insights on the association’s values and the importance of alumni staying connected with their alma mater. Following him, Secretary Ms. Karishma and Treasurer Mr. Shyam also spoke, elaborating on the roles and responsibilities within the organization and the various programs it supports.

The Headmaster, Head Boy, and Head Girl also addressed the gathering, offering their perspectives on the significance of the association and the value it adds to both the students and the school community.

The formal part of the event was followed by an engaging interaction between the students and the OLA office bearers, allowing the students to ask questions and learn more about the association’s activities. The afternoon concluded with a delightful lunch, followed by a group photo to commemorate the occasion. The event was a memorable occasion, marking an important milestone for the Batch of 2025 as they joined the esteemed ranks of the Old Lawrencians

Juhi Shah and Samritha Shine at the 68th National School Games 2025

It is with immense pride that the participation of Juhi Shah from Class 10 and Samritha from Class 11 in the 68th National School Games 2025, held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, from January 15th to 19th, is acknowledged. Both students represented the IPSC (Indian Public Schools Conference) Under-17 Basketball team at this prestigious event. Throughout the competition, exceptional skill, dedication, and sportsmanship were displayed by Juhi and Samritha, with their contributions playing a significant role in the team’s overall success at the national level.

Their involvement in such a significant event provided them with a platform to showcase their talents and gain invaluable experience to further their sporting careers. The hard work and commitment of Juhi and Samritha have brought great pride to their school and the IPSC team. Their achievements are a testament to their personal excellence and their ability to represent their school with distinction. Continued success in future competitions is eagerly anticipated, with both students seen as having bright futures ahead in their sporting endeavors.
