Art and Fine Arts

The Art & Fine Arts Department at The Lawrence School, Lovedale, is a vibrant hub for nurturing creativity and honing artistic skills among our students. Our commitment to fostering a deep appreciation for the arts, along with the integration of fine arts as a subject in the CBSE curriculum, sets our department apart.

For students in Classes XI and XII, Fine Arts is offered as a fourth subject within the CBSE curriculum. The course structure comprises a comprehensive 30-marks theory component focusing on the history of Indian Art and a substantial 70-marks practical section. This allows students to delve into the rich cultural heritage of Indian art while honing their practical skills across various artistic mediums.

A significant proportion of senior-class students opt for Fine Arts, especially those with ambitions in architecture, interior design, visual art, fashion design, product design, and graphic design. The skills acquired in our department serve as a solid foundation for their future pursuits.

For students in Classes IX and X, art is offered as an activity class, where they are exposed to various creative methods and materials. The curriculum covers a wide range of artistic techniques, including sketching, drawing, watercolor painting, acrylic and oil painting, human anatomy studies, landscape painting, creative and mural painting, and installation art.

The highlight of our department's calendar is the annual exhibition during Founder's Day, where around 350 artworks created by our talented students are displayed. This exhibition has gained recognition for its success, drawing admiration from parents, visitors, and esteemed alumni (Old Lawrencians).

Our Fine Arts department is led by Mr. Purnna Behera, a highly qualified educator and experienced artist. Mr. Behera's expertise and dedication have been instrumental in nurturing the artistic talents of our students.

At The Lawrence School, Lovedale, the Art & Fine Arts Department is not just about teaching art; it's about fostering a passion for creativity, honing skills, and preparing students for future endeavors in various artistic fields. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment that inspires innovation, self-expression, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
