Dear Parent,
I am pleased to write and let you know that in this academic year we have done exceptionally well on a number of fronts, both academic and co-curricular, winning competitions against some of the most reputed schools in the country. We have won laurels in badminton, football, hockey, athletics and debates at the Indian Public Schools’ Conference meets, our children earning plaudits not just for their skill and prowess but much more importantly for the distinguished way in which they interacted and conducted themselves; this latter aspect being specially brought to my attention by other heads of institutions present at the meets.
That The Lawrence School, Lovedale, is one of India’s most premier residential public educational institutions is no idle claim. We have endeavoured to provide holistic and quality education to thousands of students over the years and are proud of our alumni many of whom, having spent their formative years with us, have gone on to carve a significant niche in various fields of their choosing.
For the school to continue to build on its traditions, and maintain its position and high standards in these rapidly changing times, a lot will need to be done. The present Board of Governors is seeking to improve the quality of education and infrastructure of the school. To achieve this just a few of the many things we will need to do is employ well qualified and experienced teachers and provide them salaries at par with other premier educational institutions; make improvements to the residential and classroom infrastructure; provide modern kitchen equipment; as well as sensitively preserve and maintain our heritage buildings.
As was previously informed to you, the school has implemented the VIth Pay Commission recommendations, due to which there is about a 17% annual hike in staff salaries. This alone comprises 63% of our total expenditure. Besides this, the impact of inflation on food, fuel, steep hike in the prices of other consumable items, costs of utilities and services etc., have also contributed to a major increase in the revenue expenditure of the school.
In view of the above factors, the Board of Governors has been compelled to increase the base school fees by an average of 11% and a slightly greater rate of increase for the higher classes. This step has been taken only after a thorough survey of fees of other eminent residential educational institutions in the country and it will enable the school to meet its immediate needs as well as in a small way, help in working towards a future vision for it. The revised fee structure for the academic year 2012-13 is given as Annexure – I.
We do appreciate your involvement as a parent and would like to thank you for your continued co-operation. We look forward to your suggestions towards improving the standards of the school resulting in the overall development of your child.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Chandra Joshi
Headmistress (O)
