The Lawrence classroom is lively. Classes are small and
emphasise participation through discussion, seminars, presentation,
project and writing. At Lawrence, the voice of the student is heard,
respected and nurtured. Standards of academic performance are high,
yet Lawrence offers a supportive environment to the weaker students.
Academic advisors, peer tutors and faculty are always willing to help.
Students receive feedback from instructors on their progress and development.
The faculty pay attention to students' growth and progress. Lawrence
offers its students an education that is broad and varied. For the faculty
at School the diversity of the student is a teaching resource. Learning
also takes place in the exploration and enlightenment that comes when
students talk to each other. Over meals and during club activities,
students from different cultures might trade perspectives on society
and family life. The overall attempt is to train the students to tackle
the rigours of the examination system and yet retain an open and questioning
mind, and a capacity for debates , discussions and dissent. Students
are prepared for C.B.S.E. examination at the end of their Xth and XIIth
classes. All study English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and
a second language (Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Sanskrit and French). After
this, pupils are asked to specialise in one of three fields: Commerce,
Humanities, or Science. Apart from these external examinations, annual
exams are held for all at the end of the academic year in Nov-Dec.
Besides
this regular unit tests are held so as to ensure a system of continuous
evaluation.
